back to college

this week i am back at college for the final six weeks of my first year. i have almost finished most assignments except for one large programming one.

i am kind of frustated at how far away i am from getting a proper job. this is only the first year, and i should be grateful that i am finally making progress, it’s just too slow.

unassembled head of a cat

i saw an amazing thing on the internet a few days ago of a cute paper cat so i had to make one myself. i found the schematics at paperized crafts (pdf)

i’ve not done much of this kind of thing before, i used paper that was in the work printer. cutting double sticky sided sellotape for the tiny tabs was extremley fiddly, my fingers are too big and clumsy, so there are a lot of rough edges.

assembled cat

just look at how cute the little guy is !

dune

for a project, i want to create a drawing of a citadel in a desert. i am struggling to draw one inside inkscape, but for now, i can use this simple drawing of dunes. made use of gradients and a blurred elipse over the large dune in the background.

i made a picture in inkscape!

i’ve been interested in learning to use inkscape to create pictures for years. i started playing around a couple of weeks ago, learning the interface and how to use the tools. inkscape’s user interface is not too bad once you get the hang of it, but like many free software applications, it’s not the most polished.

a bug i found with viewing the svg in the browser was the rectangle border didn’t cover the entire page, even though i set it to be the same size as the page. i made the border a tiny bit larger so there wasn’t a strip of pixels up the right side. you can download the svg here.
